Using the workspaces

Current situation regarding the use of the ULB reading room:

  • Individual seats in the main reading room or the Westfalica reading room can partly be booked and partly be freely used – see below for more information.
  • Individual seats in the ground floor reading room can be used freely without reservation.

Current situation regarding the use of the ULB group workspace:
Group work in the group workspace is possible again. The cabins can be booked, the other workspaces can be freely used. When you are using a carrel or a desk in the group workspace on your own, please make it available if groups are looking for free group workspaces.

You can book a seat in the Central Library's reading room and in other libraries [de] of the University of Münster via the Seat Reservation Service. The cabins in the group workspace can be reserved as well, with one person reserving for the whole group (max. 6 people).

You can book seats up to 3 days in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of bookable time slots. In case you cannot use a reservation you can easily cancel it. Unused reservations expire one hour after the start of the booked time slot.

To use the Seat Reservation Service, you need a valid ULB library card and a valid WWU user ID or login ID.
If your student ID card is not yet activated for using the ULB, you can simply activate it online. Please note: For the Seat Reservation Service, the newly activated card can only be used the day after activation, since the data transfer from the loan system to the Seat Reservation Service only occurs once a day.
As an external user you get a login ID together with your library card.

Seat Reservation Service

If you are not yet logged in to the Single Sign On area of Münster University, you will be prompted to do so; enter your WWU user ID or login ID and the corresponding password in the two input fields on the left-hand side.
You will then be taken to the Seat Reservation Service, where you will be asked for your ULB user number before you can make reservations.

  • You can enter the reading room or group workspace with your jacket and your bag.
  • In the bookable areas (seats 300 – 767 + cabins) you can use free seats, but you have to make them available for the persons who reserved them during the first hour of the booked time slot, even if they come to the library later than you.
In the non-bookable areas (ground floor reading room, seats 001 – 273 in the main reading room, carrels and desks in the group workspace) you can use free seats without restriction.
