Using the workspaces during the Coronavirus pandemic

Following the measures taken against the spread of the Coronavirus, the ULB services can only be provided to a limited extent in some cases.

Current situation regarding the use of the ULB reading room and research room:

  • Reading and learning:
    • Individual seats in the main reading room or the Westfalica reading room can partly be booked and partly be freely used – see below for more information.
    • Individual seats in the research room can be used freely without reservation.
  • Books whose use is restricted to the reading room: Consulting media ordered from such collections is only possible in the manuscript reading room – see the FAQs.

Current situation regarding the use of the ULB group room:
Group work in the group room is possible again.

Reservation

You can book a seat in the Central Library's reading room and in other libraries [de] of the University of Münster via the Seat Reservation Service.

You can book seats up to 3 days in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of bookable time slots. In case you cannot use a reservation you can easily cancel it.

Requirements

To use the Seat Reservation Service, you need a valid ULB library card and a valid WWU ID or "Bürgerkennung" (ID for external users).
If your student ID card is not yet activated for using the ULB, you can simply start the activation process online. You will receive a message to your Münster University email address when the activation is complete. Please note: For the Seat Reservation Service, the newly activated card can only be used the day after activation, since the data transfer from the loan system to the Seat Reservation Service only occurs once a day.
If you as an external user do not yet have a ULB library card, you can apply for a "Bürgerkennung" together with your library card. If you already have a ULB library card but do not yet have a "Bürgerkennung", please contact the ULB circulation department (leihstelle.ulb@uni-muenster.de) with your user number.

Seat Reservation Service

If you are not yet logged in to the Single Sign On area of Münster University, you will be prompted to do so; enter your WWU ID or "Bürgerkennung" and the corresponding password in the two input fields on the left-hand side.
You will then be taken to the Seat Reservation Service, where you will be asked for your ULB user number before you can make reservations.

Use

  • To enter the area, you must show a 3G verification (geimpft = vaccinated, genesen = recovered, getestet = tested).
  • You can enter the reading room or group room with your jacket and your bag.
  • In the bookable areas (seats 300 – 767) you can use free seats, but you have to make them available for the persons who reserved them, even if they come to the library later than you. In the non-bookable areas (seats 001 – 273 in the main reading room) you can use free seats without restriction.
