In Ground­ing in Chi­nese Writ­ten Nar­ra­tive Dis­course Wen­dan Li offers a com­pre­hen­sive and inno­v­a­tive account of how Man­darin Chi­nese, as a lan­guage with­out exten­sive mor­pho­log­i­cal mark­ing, high­lights (or fore­grounds) major events of a nar­ra­tive and demotes (or back­grounds) oth­er sup­port­ing descrip­tions.
