Next to grammars and dictionaries, text collections are one of the three elements of the Boasian trilogy of language description. The platform Open Text Collections will host a selection of the best text collections. Texts will undergo peer review in the regional boards (currently Africa, South America, North America, Eurasia, Caucasus, Oceania). Accepted text collections will be available in HTML, PDF and print-on-demand books. Additionally, a data dump of the entirety of collections will be available.

We will produce at least 10 text collections during the funding period, but hope to be able to deliver many more.

The project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) from 2023–2025 and will thereafter be funded by a consortium of research institutions similar to Language Science Press. The project is based at the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften (BBAW, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities).

Für die geplanten Sammlungen wird der jeweilige Bearbeitungsstatus angezeigt; eine FAQ listet zahlreiche Aspekte auf.
Weitere Sammlungen können gerne eingereicht werden:

Text collections submitted to Open Text Collections should be a coherent set of curated and edited texts. While we do not give strict limits, 10 texts would be a good start. We are building conversion pipelines for ELAN and FLEx data.

If you are considering publishing a text collection, please get in touch with otc@langsci-press.org or the regional editors listed on the regional boards page. If you want to go forward, more formal proposal guidelines can be found below.
